Marienbad is right in the middle — no flight, no stress, no detour

Munich in 2.5 hours. Nuremberg in under 2 hours. Vienna in 4 hours. Mariánské Lázně sits at the heart of Central Europe — and that is an advantage few spa towns can match.

Guests who first discovered Marienbad when a flight was cancelled tend to book it directly the next time.

Marienbad is right in the middle — no flight, no stress, no detour

At some point, every frequent traveller has the experience: a flight is cancelled. A connection falls through. A carefully planned holiday, looked forward to for months, threatens to unravel. In those moments, you discover the true value of a destination in the heart of Europe.

Mariánské Lázně sits in western Bohemia, along the old border between Bavaria and Bohemia, less than 30 kilometres from Germany. For guests from the German-speaking world, Austria, Switzerland, Poland or Hungary, the town is often reachable in the same time as some domestic destinations — without a motorway traffic jam.

Nuremberg to Marienbad in under two hours. Most guests are surprised the first time they drive it. After that, they wonder why they ever flew.

The route by motorway

From Germany, the most direct route runs via the A93 motorway to Waidhaus, then through Roßhaupt and Bärnau into the Czech Republic. The Czech side is well-maintained: via the E50 and European routes, Mariánské Lázně is roughly 30 minutes from the German border. The border town of Cheb — steeped in history and directly on the route — makes a pleasant stop if you'd like a break.

From Austria, the most natural route runs via Linz and Passau, joining the A3 towards Regensburg and then the A93 to Waidhaus. Alternatively: via Salzburg and Nuremberg.

From Switzerland, the route via Ulm, Nuremberg and the A93 works well. Zürich is about 700 kilometres away — around six hours, with a break in Nuremberg.

Parking at the hotels

All Ensana hotels in Mariánské Lázně provide parking for hotel guests. The town itself is compact, and the Colonnade promenade is easily walkable from the hotel car parks. Please check parking availability when booking — reserving a space in advance is advisable for longer stays.

The "Plan B" that becomes Plan A

Anyone who has watched a summer flight strike destroy a long-anticipated Mediterranean holiday tends to think differently about destinations reachable by road or rail. For many guests, Mariánské Lázně was exactly that — first the rescue of a threatened holiday, then, on the second and third visit, the conscious first choice.

This isn't a consolation prize. It is simply the recognition that a holiday begins not on a runway but on the road — and that arriving without stress is itself part of the cure.

No jet lag, no time zone shift

Guests travelling from Central Europe to Marienbad cross no time zones. The body doesn't need to adjust to a different day-night rhythm. For a two-week cure stay — whose effectiveness depends on the regularity of treatments — this is a genuine medical advantage: the first and last days of the stay can be used fully for the cure rather than for acclimatisation.

In long-haul destinations, three to four days are often lost to adjustment. In Marienbad, treatment begins on arrival day.

Historically in exactly the right place

Mariánské Lázně was never here by accident. The town was founded in the early 19th century at a location that was reachable for travellers from across the German-speaking world — first by carriage, later by railway. Goethe, Chopin, Emperor Franz Joseph — they came not despite the location but because of it. The short journey from Vienna, Prague, Dresden and Munich was part of the concept from the very beginning.

That geographic logic still holds. Mariánské Lázně is in the same place — and the roads and railways are faster and more comfortable than ever.

Practical notes for your journey

Navigation: Mariánské Lázně town centre is in all major navigation apps. The address of the Ensana hotels: Masarykova 22/5, 353 01 Mariánské Lázně.

Czech motorway vignette: The Czech Republic requires an electronic vignette (eZnámka) for motorways and expressways. It can be purchased online at edalnice.cz — strongly recommended before departure. Guests driving entirely on regional roads can avoid it, but the motorway saves significant time.

Return journey: To make the most of the stay, plan your departure for the afternoon of the final day. This leaves time for the last morning walk, a proper farewell to the Colonnade, and a calm drive home.
